"Oye, thank goodness Bob said something, or I'd be toast, hombre." - El Goblino 2024 April Fools Event Modifier is still in game, but the badge and event are permanently no longer in-game. This article serves as a record for something that was removed or archived.
"Oye... who do you think built this place? 2024 April Fools Event, I mean. " - El Goblino (altered) 2024 April Fools Event is currently a stub. Help the wiki by expanding it! The article will be finished soon. Content needed: Better renders for Retro Ambush and Retro Figure.
"SO RETRO!" - SURVIVE THE DRAKOBLOXXERS'Achievement description
The 2024 April Fools Event, also known as Retro Mode, was a limited-time event that released on April 1, 2024, and ended on April 10th, 2024. It added the "Retro Mode" sub-floor and voice lines within The Hotel.
The achievement granted after players completed Retro Mode, "Survive The Drakobloxxers", was intended to become unobtainable on April 7, 2024, but the obtainment period was extended to April 10, 2024.[1]
After the event's conclusion, Retro Mode was playable via a custom elevator, and was later converted into a modifier that was temporarily removed from the game for unknown reasons.[2] It was re-added to the game with the Content Update.
On August 14, 2025, Retro Mode got temporarily removed from the game, with the modifier saying "Under Maintenance" due to unknown reasons. It is currently unknown as to when the modifier will return to the game.
Many events (e.g. opening doors) in the Hotel will now cause random voice lines to play. Elevator Jam is also modified.
As of April 4, 2024, the voice lines have been converted to its own modifier, deducting 20% of the total knobs earned. It's because it's much easier to hear and survive entities with the modifier active.[3]
The list of the voicelines is incomplete. Some voicelines need to be listed, or need the sounds added. And some are scrapped and unused and only accessed in the files of the game.

"So hey, you know- I'm Halt. Uhm... Y'know, I hope you're doing alright yeah, you know, I'm Halt and uh.. Yeah, I guess uh.. you're in my room so you got to walk forward and backwards. Just uhh, you know, if you feel a little lost it should say turn around on your screen every time I uhh, you know, I'm about to turn around, some people find that a little difficult or they don’t really understand but- you know, personally, I think it’s pretty.. easy to understand. I don't know- uh- I don’t know, some people don’t find it so easy but it - it’s just weird. And even those who find it easy are just like (mocking voice) “Well, it’s not good for speedrunning! I get up here every time! It ruins your runs, it’s so bad we might as well leave.” A bunch of babies, if you ask me. Maybe I should just spawn in all runs, so they're forced to see me, and it won't ruin any speedruns but they'll have to see my face, which they hate so much. That’d be cool. I don't know, it's just a thought I was having ‘cause it seems- so many complaints all directed at me and honestly, I- I feel a little hurt. Umm, just so many things going on in my life and that on top of it just - it’s not really helping out. You know, my therapist would say, I should really try uhh - you know, nevermind. It's fine. You know, I’m- I’m surprised you’re still here honestly, this room shouldn’t really take you that long. Um, maybe you’re just here to hear me? You know that actually makes me feel a lot better so, thank you very much. Yeah, so uhh, why don’t you uhh- tell me more about you? And, how’s your day? Ugh, you know, I wish you’d talk. I’m a little sad. I just want someone to talk to, my therapist just isn’t enough. Ugh, okay… you -you don’t have to- that's- that’s fine. That’s fine I guess. You know I’m just gonna - I'm gonna stop talking now, you - you can just go. Bye. I said GO!”
Spawn[]
Noises that can be heard when Dread spawns.
"Dread's reaction."
Retro Mode[]
This specific mode can now only be accessed through the Create Elevator option with the SURVIVE THE DRAKOBLOXXERS modifier. The badge for this mode stayed and was obtainable in-game until April 9th, 2024, where it became fully unobtainable. Lightning_Splash said on X that the "Survive The Drakobloxxers" achievement would stay until April 7, 2024, but nicely gave 2 extra days. It can only be accessed with the modifiers which can be unlocked by obtaining the achievement ‘Rock Bottom’ which is unlocked by beating the Hotel. Then, a player can use the modifiers to do Retro Mode. However, the achievement is no longer obtainable.
The solo and duo elevators on the right side of the Lobby have been altered; both the elevators became squad elevators, and now take on the appearance of a gray, study and blocky elevator. The elevator in that mode doesn't have a Pre-Run Shop and the alternate soundtrack of "Elevator Jam" plays on an unanchored radio beside the elevator, rather than inside.
As the title suggests, the "Retro Mode" changes the style and look of the Hotel to resemble the look of Roblox during the years 2006 to 2016.
In the "Retro Hotel", The Reception has been replaced with a room containing morphs of Seek and Figure that don't function (thankfully). In the room, there are red walls, a black floor, 2 advertisements and 4 non-functional gear givers. The elevator will remove players faster than it normally does.
Once a player unlocks Door 1, all players must get to Door 43 in only 600 seconds, or 10 minutes. If not, then the Drakobloxxers will spawn around each player and attack them. Players used to have 700 seconds (11 minutes and 40 seconds) on the day retro mode released, a few hours later it changed and they had 600 seconds (10 minutes) before the Drakobloxxers came, and it is currently unknown why.
Ambient noises, such as a quacking duck, ninja sounds, or horse neighs, may play when a player navigates the rooms. Two or more players can hide in a closet so this can be a strategy if there is not enough closets to hide in.
Seek's chase sequences have been replaced with a long, colorful hallway in Door 12 which parodies the game "Be Crushed by a Speeding Wall". Seek itself has been replaced with the so-called "SEEKING WALL!!!!"
Both of Figure's rooms, The Library and The Electrical Room, have been changed into old-looking obstacle courses styled after classic Roblox obbies. Both rooms vaguely resemble their original appearance, though Figure itself is absent from them and doesn't appear.
The Courtyard now references the popular 2007 game "Happy Home in Robloxia", with its iconic house being found in the field outside the walkway.
The Greenhouse has also been changed, mostly with normal Retro Mode room structures, although, the carpeted floors have been removed and the furniture is bare, resembling some aspects of the original room.
Door 43 marks the actual and true end of Retro Mode, containing a finish line, a fake spawn point, NPCS dancing, hats, color changing, speed and jump boost pads, mostly found in normal Roblox obbies.
However, there's more to this mode, since there is also a secret easter egg room that rarely spawns within the room generation. This room will simply contain an easter egg basket, with dialogue above saying "This is easter egg basket!" The walls and floor of that room are coloured purple, indigo, blue and pink.
Most items have been removed in Retro Mode, with the exceptions of the Lighters, Lockpicks, Vitamins, Flashlights, Glitch Fragments and Keys, also being retextured to fit into Retro Mode. Neither does the Guiding Light or the Curious Light appear in Retro Mode, so player's death animation looks a lot like when you play the Hotel with modifiers but slightly glitchier.
Glitches[]
If a player uses a speed boost in Door 43, they can climb over a wall and somehow open the Door 44. If a player happens to successfully make that happen, Glitch will attack them and transport them into the next room. After that, room generation will continue until reaching Door 101.
Death messages are broken and can show the wrong death cause.
Players can stay in a locked door without opening it and survive Rush and sometimes even Ambush. This happens because the door lock has a large hitbox that can cover the whole player from Rush's raycasting.
Players have a chance to die when spawning in the elevator, however, you will always be instantly revived if you die to this.
Sometimes when a room with the next door being locked is generated, the key sometimes will not appear inside a drawer or on the floor near the locked door.
If the "Voice Acting" modifier is enabled, several entities voices are broken and not working. This bug has started happening since The Mines Update. These are all the broken voice lines with this modifier:
Retro Rush is a major hostile entity of The Hotel, serving as one of the main threats in Retro Mode.
Appearance[]
Retro Rush appears to be a black sphere with a decal of its regular hotel variant on it.
Behavior[]
Retro Rush's behavior is similar to what it is in the Hotel. It has a chance of spawning when a door is opened, causing the lights to flicker when it does. A rumbling sound can be heard to signify its presence. Finally, Rush will charge through the rooms at high speed, killing any players that are not hiding, shattering the lights in the room. However, Rush will not open the next door regardless of it is locked or not.
Retro Rush is significantly harder to avoid because of the finickiness of the closet doors.
Retro Eyes are a reoccurring enemy of The Hotel, serving as a common threat in Retro Mode.
Appearance[]
Retro Eyes appears to be a bright purple universal stud sphere with a decal of its original appearance on it.
Behavior[]
Retro Eyes behavior is unchanged from The Hotel. They have a chance of spawning when a door is opened, producing a warped sound as they spawn, giving players roughly a second to look away from them. They will spawn in a random location within a room, rapidly damaging players that directly look at them.
In Retro Mode, Retro Eyes will spawn much more frequently than in The Hotel, and can do so anywhere, including The Reception and Door 43.
Trivia[]
Retro Eyes seems to have a bigger hitbox in Retro Mode than it does in The Hotel.
Retro Eyes will damage players even if they're inside a closet.
Eyes is harder to avoid in Retro Mode due to it having no aura.
Retro Screech is a hostile entity of The Hotel, serving as one of the main threats in Retro Mode.
Appearance[]
Retro Screech appears to be a black sphere with cones attached to it as its tentacles. Its face has two big eyes and an open mouth with triangular sharp teeth.
Behavior[]
Retro Screech's behavior is similar to what it is in the Hotel. It has a chance of spawning, approaching players from outside their field of view and hovering in a randomly chosen spot for a few seconds before attacking. It will make a "psst" sound to announce its presence to a player, who must find it and look at it to prevent an attack. If they take too long, Retro Screech will proceed to bite players, dealing significant damage to them.
In Retro Mode, Retro Screech can spawn and attack players anywhere, including The Reception and the final room, unlike in the Hotel, where it can only spawn and attack in dark rooms. This can be a major disadvantage while hiding because it is difficult to prevent Screech from attacking as your basically throwing darts by swinging your camera into every angle until you either eventually catch it, or it attacks you unfairly after running out of time.
Trivia[]
Retro Screech’s design resembles the Chain Chomp from the Super Mario series.
When looked at, Retro Screech will explode with a red sphere, referencing the old explosion effect Roblox previously used.
Retro Screech could sometimes appear without making a sound, only doing it when looked at.
Retro Ambush is a recurring hostile entity of The Hotel, serving as a major threat in Retro Mode.
Appearance[]
Similar to Retro Rush, Retro Ambush is a sphere with a decal of its normal hotel variant on it.
Behavior[]
Retro Ambush's behavior is unchanged from The Hotel. It has a chance of spawning when a door is opened, a loud fan-like sound is played to signify his presence. Rebounds 2-4 times from the loaded rooms and killing any players that are close enough to it and not hiding.
Trivia[]
Retro Ambush is likely to rebound only 2 times.
Retro Ambush is much easier to survive on this floor due to the fact that Hide is not present.
SEEKING WALL is a picture of Seek on a lava wall that zooms up and down a hallway.
Appearance[]
The wall is a large red (when moving forward) or black (when moving backwards or idle) lava wall containing a stretched picture of Seek on it that act like a mini-boss.
Lava ! blocks the path in the hallway with it.
Behavior[]
The wall spawns in Room 12, going back and forth. Players will be dealt near fatal damage upon touching the wall and be pushed according to the direction of the wall, stunning a player. In order to survive it, players must go into one of the holes located at the sides of the room.
Trivia[]
The gameplay mechanic is likely to be inspired from the Roblox game: 'Be Crushed by a Speeding Wall'.
"DRAKOBLOXXERS ARE HERE. RUN" - The text seen when the DRAKOBLOXXERS spawn
DRAKOBLOXXERS serve as a main threat in Retro Mode, only giving you 600 seconds (10 minutes) to complete all 42 rooms before coming to kill all nearby players.
Appearance[]
Appears to be a dragon like creature made out of square original Roblox blocks, has a circular head with a face.
Behavior[]
Upon opening Door 1, the game gives you 600 (used to be 700 for the first few hours of the update) seconds to complete all rooms. If the timer runs out, DRAKOBLOXXERS will spawn killing all nearby players.
Trivia[]
DRAKOBLOXXERS originate from the 2008 classic Roblox game, Build To Survive Drakobloxxers! by papasmurf. A playable remake can be found here.
The song that plays when the timer hits 15 seconds is called "Gothic" by Zero-Project.
Retro El Goblino is a friendly entity in The Hotel, serving as a decorative feature in Retro Mode.
Appearance[]
Retro El Goblino's appearance is that of a group of Rectangles and triangles wich seems like el goblino's (kinda) and has a full healthbar on top of him and a text saying "Hola Hombre"
Behavior[]
Retro El Goblino's behavior (or lack thereof) is entirely different in Retro Mode, being effectively an inanimate object. Its only purpose is to Decorate Door 22
Retro Jeff is a friendly entity in The Hotel, serving as a decorative feature in Retro Mode.
Appearance[]
"Retro Jeff" appears to be a wide black rectangle with two circles and two cones with a semi-transparent head with a full healthbar on top of it and saying "Sorry... we are out of gear... Check next time!"
Behavior[]
Retro Jeff's behavior (or lack thereof) is entirely different in Retro Mode, being effectively an inanimate object. Its only purpose is to be used to Decorate Door 22
Retro Bob is a neutral entity in The Hotel, serving as a decoration for room 22 in Retro Mode.
Appearance[]
"Bob's" Appearance are 4 rectangles, a square and a head resembling the body of a player, with some bones texture, on his head, bobs wear an old roblox hat and on top of it there's a drained healthbar and a text saying "...Nothing happens."
Behavior[]
Retro Bob's behavior in Retro Mode is being effectively an inanimate object. Its only purpose is to Decorate Room 22
Figure is a non-hostile entity in the Hotel, serving as a useful tool in Retro Mode.
Appearance[]
Figure's appearance is that of a group of separate cubes with the original Figure's texture.
Behavior[]
Figure's behavior (or lack thereof) is entirely different in Retro Mode, being effectively an inanimate object. Its only purpose is to be used to test the rainbow bridge parts in the Library and the Electrical Room for collision.
Trivia[]
It is the only non-hostile entity in Retro Mode, same for the Shop Entities.
The Closet in Retro Mode is harder to open than normal one, due to the only part that can trigger it to open being the upper part, making it harder to survive Rush or Ambush. Therefore, it is highly recommended to look directly to the upper part of the Closet when you're trying to hide; this makes the chance of survival higher.
For mobile players, simply look up and the interaction button should be shown on the right side of the screen, same as normal.
Eyes can still attack if players are looking at it while hiding. Therefore, it is recommended to look down if Rush or Ambush is presented with Eyes. Furthermore, if Eyes are presented right in front of the closet after Rush or Ambush goes through, simply look the opposite direction where Eyes spawn and get out of the Closet.
The same applies to Screech: if it's present while you are in a closet, try looking in all directions to increase the chance of catching it. If Ambush is also present, simply get out of the closet, find Screech, then get in again.
Unlike in The Hotel and The Backdoor, multiple players can hide in the same Hiding spot.
(If you are wearing headphones) To avoid Screech and save time, listen to what ear the noise comes out of as this tells you what side Screech is on and gives you a better chance to find it.
Modifiers[]
SURVIVE THE DRAKOBLOXXERS "Replicates the April Fools 2024 mode." No Progress, No Rift Cannot be used with: Anything Floors: The Hotel
The music in Retro Mode's Jeff Shop is the song "Happy Day in ROBLOXia".
Retro Mode may be a reference to the many DOORS But Bad-esque games, and retro horror games such as Jim's Computer and Residence Massacre.
Rush's voice lines don't play in The Greenhouse or the last 10 rooms of The Mines, for obvious reasons.
Many voice lines are cultural references from the internet:
Player's line "Knock knock! Who's there? The door!" is a reference to asdfmovie6.
Player's lines "Papa's got a brand new bag!", "Got a brand new bag!", "Papa's got a brand new item!", "Got a brand new item!", and "Papa's opening a brand new door!" are all a reference to the James Brown song, Papa’s Got a Brand New Bag.
Player's line "I just found the key, key, key, key!" is a reference to a fanmade song by LankyBox.
Player's line "Doors, doors, doors all around me" is a reference to a fanmade song by BSlick.
Player's line "What I want hides behind another door!" is a reference to fanmade song by TryHardNinja.
Player's line "Rev up those fryers!" is a reference to a scene from SpongeBob SquarePants, where Fred Rachid walks into the Krusty Krab, but soon gets thrown out by Mr. Krabs, the owner of the restaurant.
Player's voice acting overall seems to be a reference to the worms from Worms:Armageddon, as both Player and the worms share many of the same lines and have the same high pitched voice.
Seek's voice acting is a reference to Deku from the Japanese anime My Hero Academia.
Seek's line “Hey there pookie-bear... you've entered my domain," specifically the phrase “you’ve entered my domain,” is a reference to the Japanese anime Jujutsu Kaisen.
Figure's voice overall is a reference to the TikTok Roblox Slender trend.
Timothy's lines "The itsy-bitsy spider!" and "Climbed up the water spout!" are both a reference to the children’s nursery rhyme of the same name.
Screech's "Oh, hello there!" is likely a reference to how movie character Shrek says the line in the movie of the same name.
Screech's line "Can you believe it? Jumpscare! Just a second away!" is a reference to the video “Christmas, just a week away!" in which a girl gets excited about Christmas being only a week away despite it not having been December yet.
Screech's line "Hey, it's me, Screech!" is a reference to the meme “Hey, it’s me, Goku!”
Eyes' lines suggest an interesting concept that they get hurt when looked at, similar to when a player looks at Eyes and subsequently gets their health damaged
Halt's monologue towards players may be a reference to Mr Hippo from the Five Nights at Freddy's game Ultimate Custom Night, in which he delivers one of many similarly long monologues after jumpscaring and killing a player.
One of Dupe's voice lines, "I'm in your head!", may be a reference to one of Mr. Virtual's iconic lines, "I'm already in your head." Possibly due to both Mr. Virtual and Dupe causing victims/players paranoia.
The voice actors for all entities are the following:
Elevator Jam - Lightning_Splash (aka LSPLASH)
Player - RediblesQW
Ambush - RediblesQW, Lightning_Splash
Rush - Lightning_Splash
Halt - Lightning_Splash
Screech - Syletical
Eyes - CrayolaProduct
Dupe - NormallyAve
Seek - undeadking345
Figure - IThundxr
Timothy - ItsThump
El Goblino - Thinknoodles
Bob - KreekCraft
Dread - Lightning_Splash
Door 43/The final room is a reference to the end of many old Roblox obbies, which usually have free hats for wearing, pads that change your speed or jump power, happy NPCs dancing, color changing, etc.
If a player manages to find their way outside of Door 43, they will or may be glitched to the secret area (Doors 44–100). When they reach Door 101, the door will fall off into the void, leaving players stuck.
To do this, you need to get the fast speed from one of the pads to hop on one of the billboards, then skim your way across the top of the walls to see an outside room. Then, you can jump to the door that's unopened, if you open it at the right time, Glitch will teleport you after a bit to the room, then you can traverse through Doors 44–100. (Please note that the entities you encountered earlier will and can still spawn as you open doors, though DRAKOBLOXXERS are now disabled.)
Locks never appear in this scenario, and Rush and Ambush seem to appear very rarely past door 50.
When opened, the Retro Mode doors are physics objects and can be pushed around by a player.
If a player takes too long to load in the Elevator, then their avatar will be replaced by another avatar with a t-shirt displaying the words "I love DOORS".
