"This painting is titled "Me""
- A painting in The Outdoors created by Curious Light
Curious Light, also named Starlight from the names of some objects and from one painting in The Outdoors, is a mysterious yellow aura and death messenger entity in DOORS, appearing in almost all floors. It is one of The Three Architects and its motives and goals are largely unknown. Although it provides somewhat helpful messages after death, and highlights areas of progression, it is less helpful than the Guiding Light in giving advice.
Appearance[]
After dying in any subfloor, Curious Light appears as a four-pointed star at the top of the player's screen while emitting a bright yellow light in an otherwise pitch black room surrounded by water.
When lighting up an area of progression, Curious Light appears to be a simple glowing, yellow aura with small yellow sparkles emitting from it.
It can be further identified by its unique soundtracks, being a much quieter and more somber version of the Guiding Light, hinting at a possible affiliation between the entities.
It is associated with a white or yellow 4-point star, which is seen on the "Spacetime" painting, Starlight Vial, Starlight Bottle, Starlight Jug, and the Stardust icon.
Behavior[]
Curious Light can be seen in almost all floors, serving as a death messenger to the player after dying in subfloors, appearing in The Hotel and The Mines for when it teleports the player from subfloors as well as appearing as a Rift. Curious Light provides tips on how to counter the entities found inside the subfloors, but it often states the obvious or nothing substantial at all.
Lorewise, Curious Light is a lot more helpful in The Backdoor since according to its dialogue, it is the one that placed the levers that keep us from dying to Haste. However, in The Rooms, it only lights up areas of progression scattered throughout the subfloor and like in gameplay, does not serve much of a role.
Curious Light does not actively light up dark environments, being only present in a player's death or lighting up exit doors or certain items. When it does assist the player, it is very vague and often impatient. In some cases, Curious Light does prove to be helpful, like making shimmering sounds near room keys in The Backdoor. After finishing The Backdoor, Curious Light brings us back to The Reception through a yellow doorframe. After that, the doorway can be seen emitting Curious Light's yellow sparks.
Curious Light usually makes unhelpful comments about the entities, with the only useful tips being the spawning point (in The Rooms) and things that most players would figure out very easily themselves. Despite this, it's cheering the player on to keep beating its subfloors while also occasionally criticising the player for failing to survive The Backdoor or The Outdoors, making its motives confusing. This may also imply that Curious Light is trying to challenge the player via subfloors or that it does not care enough to fully guide the player throughout subfloors and instead uses alternate ways to aid the player throughout them, such as highlighting exit doors, placing levers in The Backdoor, making shimmering noises near keys, etc.
SUPER HARD MODE!!![]
- Curious Light will be near The Rooms entrance, however trying to enter The Rooms will send you to the Roblox game called "Survive and Kill the Killers in Area 51!!!."

A-60 | Third Death A-60 again... |
Hmm... Maybe try hiding next time?
See you next time. |

This shouldn't be hard to figure out either.

| So... You've found another one of these places.
I'm sure you remember me. Let's see who you died to. |
Blitz | First Death Oh, one of my favorites. |
She said we should call that one Blitz.
Well... I'll see you later, right? You'll come back? Haha... of course you will. You always do. |
| Lookman | First Death Hmm... that one. |
You could call it the Lookman, if you like... that's what I call it.
Well... I'll see you later, right? You'll come back? Haha.. of course you will. You always do.
| Haste | First Death Hmm... looks like you ran out of time. |
You must make haste... ooh, let's call that one Haste!
Well... I'll see you later, right? You'll come back? Haha... of course you will. You always do.
| Vacuum | First Death Oh, looks like there wasn't anything behind that door... sorry. |
Watch where you're going next time. The vacuum is dangerous.
Well... I'll see you later, right? You'll come back? Haha... of course you will. You always do.
| The Backdoor is a very old place. No older than The Hotel, but still old.
Somewhat forgotten, too. Some parts seem to be missing entirely. Anyways... what got you this time? |
Blitz | Second Death Blitz got you again? |
Hmm... it's extremely hostile. It's best not to interact with it.
Maybe try a little harder next time. You'll be back. See you then. |
| Lookman | Second Death The Lookman? |
It's very similar to another entity you've definitely encountered.
You should enough experience to deal with it. Maybe try a little harder next time. You'll be back. See you then.
| Haste | Second Death You ran out of time, and died to Haste. |
I've given you a method to add more time to the clock, though. You're welcome.
You'll be back. See you then.
| Vacuum | Second Death You were pulled into the vacuum again. |
It's very dangerous to go out there.
The vacuum has no oxygen, and I'm told you need oxygen to survive. You'll be back. See you then.
| Dead again.
What got you this time? |
Blitz | Third Death Wow... Blitz yet again. |
...You should really know how to handle this by now.
Maybe try a little harder next time. You'll be back. See you then. |
| Lookman | Third Death Hmm... the Lookman again? |
It's not that hard
I think you're dying on purpose just to annoy me. You'll be back. See you then.
| Haste | Third Death You ran out of time, and died to Haste. |
Look around for the levers I placed for you... they can be anywhere.
Maybe try a little harder next time. You'll be back. See you then.
| Vacuum | Third Death You were sucked out into the vacuum. |
Try to avoid falling out of reality next time.
Maybe try a little harder next time. You'll be back. See you then.
| Dead again.
What got you this time? |
Blitz | Fourth Death Wow... Blitz yet again. |
Are you even paying attention?
Come on, you can do this. Just try harder. Maybe try a little harder next time. You'll be back. See you then. |
| Haste | Fourth Death You ran out of time, and died to Haste. |
Pull the levers for extra time. I made it easy for you on purpose.
Maybe try a little harder next time. You'll be back. See you then.
| Vacuum | Fourth Death You were sucked out into the vacuum. |
Good job. Try not walking out there next time.
...Should be pretty obvious. Maybe try a little harder next time. You'll be back. See you then.
| Dead again.
What got you this time? |
Blitz | Fifth Death Wow... Blitz yet again. |
Blitz is extremely hostile. Just avoid it if you have to.
Maybe try a little harder next time. You'll be back. See you then. |

| Oh... Hello.
I'm glad you found this place! Looks like you didn't make it too far, though. What'd you die to? |
Groundskeeper | First Death
Oh. I see you've met the Groundskeeper. |
It has free rein over most of the gardens out here.
If the Groundskeeper doesn't want you there, that's its choice. Just let it do its job, and steer clear. |
Anyways, I hope you don't mind trying again. It would be helpful. |
| Mandrake | First Death
...What is that thing? |
Oh... I understand.
Hmm... let's call it a... Mandrake. I believe its wails caused you to suffer a heart attack.
| Monument | First Death
You died to... a Monument? |
Right... I forgot some of those can move.
I could've warned you... but I didn't. Haha.
| Eyestalk | First Death
Hmm... this is a strange situation. |
You died to what I will call... Eyestalk.
How unoriginal. I'm sorry you had to see that.
| Surge | First Death
You've died to what I call Surge. |
What did it feel like? All the electricity in your body?
...Probably not great.
| Bramble | First Death
So you've reached the World Lotus... and died |
Hmm... it seems the vines have formed an entire body out of bramble...
So let's call this one Bramble. It makes sense. It's almost as if Bramble has assigned itself mechanics in order to act like any other entity... ...Incredible! I never imagined the World Lotus could be so powerful.
| Well, I'm glad you at least tried again.
You could do better though. What was it this time? |
Groundskeeper | Second Death
The Groundskeeper again, huh? |
The Groundskeeper takes its job very seriously.
I believe you became a target, somehow. Try not doing... whatever you did. |
Could you try getting a little further next time? |
| Mandrake | Second Death
A Mandrake got you? |
I honestly don't know what to tell you. That thing is new to me, too.
| Monument | Second Death
You died to a Monument. |
Such a perfect balance between organic and inorganic...
It fooled even you! | ||
| Eyestalk | Second Death
You were caught by Eyestalk again. |
This shouldn't be anything new to you.
I'm sure you just tripped, or something.
| Surge | Second Death
Surge electrocuted you to death. |
Keep your chin up. It helps to keep a look out.
| Bramble | Second Death
You died to Bramble. |
It's clear the World Lotus chose a lantern as its body host for a reason.
The light in Bramble's head is probably important... somehow. It also seems the Groundskeeper has set up traps on the World Lotus roots. It's done well. I'm glad it's proving useful.
| Third time was not the charm for you.
Let's see what got you. |
Groundskeeper | Third Death
The Groundskeeper yet again. |
The Groundskeeper was angry enough to personally eliminate you...
...Just stop making it mad. It's not even meant to attack you. Try dying to an actual threat next time. |
Well... good luck next time. If there is one. |
| Mandrake | Third Death
Looks like you died to a Mandrake. |
Can you shut that thing up? I can't stand that noise.
| Monument | Third Death
A Monument snuck up on you. |
I can't believe you were fooled by that again.
| Eyestalk | Third Death
Eyestalk again? Embarrassing... |
This shouldn't be so difficult for you.
You should be used to escaping certain death by now. You've done it before... remember?
| Surge | Third Death
Surge electrocuted you to death. |
Did you really not hear or see anything which might've indicated that you need to hide?
Try looking out for Surge's warning. It's pretty obvious, I don't know how you keep missing it.
| Bramble | Third Death
You died to Bramble again. |
Use your eyes and look at Bramble's lantern head.
It's clearly important. Try using the Groundskeeper's traps... which it has set up so conveniently. I'm very happy with its work.
| I can sense that you want help. I'm not here to help you... just to observe.
It isn't a rule I have to follow or anything. I just think it's better this way. Anyways, let's see what got you. |
Groundskeeper | Fourth Death
Who would've guessed... the Groundskeeper. |
I believe it sees you as some kind of threat.
Maybe it thinks your trespassing. What intelligence... it's incredible, |
See you next time. I'll be waiting. |
| Mandrake | Fourth Death
Looks like you died to a Mandrake. |
Can you shut that thing up already?
Put it back where it came from!
| Monument | Fourth Death
A Monument snuck up on you. |
I can't believe you were fooled by that again.
It disguises itself so effortlessly... ...it almost looks like any other Monument.
| Eyestalk | Fourth Death
You were caught by Eyestalk. |
This shouldn't be so difficult for you.
You should be used to running away from things by now.
| Surge | Fourth Death
Surge electrocuted you to death. |
Try looking out for Surge's warning. It's pretty obvious, I don't know how you keep missing it.
| Bramble | Fourth Death
You died to Bramble once again. |
Can you try actually paying attention to Bramble's lantern head?
Using your eyes would work wonders. Try using the Groundskeeper's traps... which it has set up so conveniently. I'm very happy with its work.
| Hmm. What was it this time? | Groundskeeper | Fifth Death
Who would've guessed... the Groundskeeper. |
I believe you are unintentionally threatening the Groundskeeper.
If there's somewhere it doesn't want you to go, best to stay away. |
You can do this. I believe in you. I'll see you next time. Right? |
| Mandrake | Fifth Death
Looks like you died to a Mandrake. |
Can you shut that thing up already?
Put it back where it came from!
| Monument | Fifth Death
A Monument snuck up on you. |
I can't believe you were fooled by that again.
It disguises itself so effortlessly... ...it almost looks like any other Monument.
| Eyestalk | Fifth Death
You were caught by Eyestalk. |
This shouldn't be so difficult for you.
You should be used to running away from things by now.
| Surge | Fifth Death
Surge electrocuted you to death. |
Try looking out for Surge's warning. It's pretty obvious, I don't know how you keep missing it.

I'm not sure how it works... I believe it attacks stragglers, if I remember correctly?

Did it follow you in?
Just... try sticking together more. Got it?
| Third Death Again? I have to fix that... noted for later. |
Look. Just stick together. Alright? It's easy. |
Trivia[]
- Curious Light's name originates from a soundtrack by LSPLASH.
- Curious Light is proven to exist in all canon floors.
- This is further proven by how all of Curious Light's related items work in every location, unlike Guiding Light's related items which only work in main floors.
- Thus, Curious Light is not trapped in The Rooms.[1]
- Signs of Curious Light can also be seen on the doorway that appears in The Reception when beating The Backdoor, just before The Infirmary after beating The Rooms.
- Curious Light is heavily implied to be the strongest among The Three Architects. This is because of how Curious Light appears in every floor (unlike Guiding Light or the Red Light who are only shown to appear on main floors), how it can see and knows about the existence of Glitch and how it is the largest celestial body in the Spacetime painting, even with Modifiers.
- The World Lotus, who seems to be connected to Curious Light and having immense power, may also imply this.
- Curious Light's ambience can be softly heard when navigating The Basement (on Door 61, not to be confused with the basement in Door 89) when you go down to the right stairs, turn right, and keep going until you hear Curious Light's ambient sound. This happens because the entrance to The Rooms is really close.
- With each update, Curious Light's color seems to change, changing from a yellowish-green color, to a more golden-yellow color. This is especially noticeable after The Hunt Update and the addition of the Starlight items.
- Curious Light is also shown to become more pink, as seen with Stardust.
- The World Lotus and Lotus Petals which seem to be connected to Curious Light, may also hint at this.
- It has been confirmed that Curious Light will play a bigger role in the overall game in the future.[2]
- Currently, Curious Light is technically in all the existing floors in the game (excluding the HOTEL- modifier).
- Curious Light has a connection to the Starlight Vial, Starlight Bottle and therefore to the Starlight Jug, as they emit the yellow sparks of Curious Light especially when it is held in the hand.
- Additionally, the pedestal which the Bottle of Starlight is placed on has the same marks as the yellow doorway back to the Reception which also emits the yellow sparks of Curious Light.
- Stardust, a currency, also seems to be associated with Curious Light.
- Curious Light’s theme is pretty similar to Five Night’s at Freddy’s Ultimate Custom Night OST - Last Breath.
- When the player dies for the first time to Blitz, one of the Curious Light's lines are: "She said we should call that one Blitz." "She" most likely refers to Guiding Light, due to the painting of the moonlight symbol in The Outdoors titled "Her".
- When the player dies to Eyestalk in The Outdoors, Curious Light points out how 'unoriginal' Eyestalk is and apologies to the player for having to see it. Along with this, Curious Light also points how the player has been in similar chases before.
- This implies that Curious Light also observes the player in main floors.
- In one of the death messages for Haste, Curious Light states that it placed down the levers in The Backdoor, meaning that it may have a physical form, or a sense of touch.
- Curious Light is currently the only architect/light to have ambience, as the Guiding Light only has a theme which is heard after death in The Hotel and the “Red Light” plays no sound at all.
- Curious Light appears to have its limits, as it gets increasingly more frustrated and annoyed the more times players die in The Backdoor and The Outdoors, making it one of the few entities that show emotions and/or feelings.
- Curious Light's background color and sparkles appeared in the Post-Hunt icon for DOORS.
- This is similar to how every other architect had their background colors appear in an icon for DOORS. With the Hotel+ Update icon having Guiding Light's and the Modifiers update icon having the Red Light's.
- Curious Light's symbol shown in its death screen is usually brighter than Guiding Light's and has light rays passing through the water.
- Curious Light's symbol is displayed on all starlight items. Unlike the Guiding light in which the symbol is only displayed on the Crucifix's banishment symbol, the lid of the Rift Jar, and the Moonlight Candle's handle, meanwhile the Moonlight Float does not have the associated symbol.
- Curious Light's Backdoor barrier used to have the old Curious Light' symbol before it was eventually replaced with a new one.[citation needed]
- Curious Light has the ability to hear, as it complains about the Mandrake's wailing.
- This could also carry to the other architects.
- Curious Light, in a death message in The Outdoors, states that it doesn't want to help players but only observe them, stating that it isn't a rule it has to follow and that it thinks it's better this way.
- It is unknown why they think that way, but it is possible they don't trust the player, at least not as much as Guiding Light.
- As can be inferred from dialogue from dying to Glitch Fragment entities, Curious Light knows about Glitch. This is different from Guiding Light, who explains that you suffered a hallucination and died, but doesn't know the cause of it.
- The World Lotus, Lotus Petal and by extension the Lotus all seem to be associated with Curious Light as they emit the same pink and yellow particles that is seen on the Starlight items, Curious Light's Rift and inside A-1000.
- This would also explain how the Lotus works in specific subfloors.
- Curious Light is possibly genderless as the Detour badge refers to them as "their". Also judging by the achievement, both lights know about each other.
- One of the paintings from Outdoors is signed "Me", meaning that Curious Light painted them.
Bugs[]
- Curious Light can sometimes spawn after a player dies in RETRO MODE.
- Curious Light shares the same death message as Guiding Light when a player drowns.
- If a player has drowned before in The Mines, the death messages save to The Outdoors.
- Curious Light's portal does not appear in The Outdoors although the player enters the floor through Curious Light. This is most likely an oversight.
Patched Bugs[]
- Curious Light used to share the same death messages as Guiding Light upon dying to a Glitch Fragment entity.
