"Dude, I swear there were like... ten million of them!"
- "I Don't Believe My Eyes" Achievement description
Gloombats are neutral entities that appear in The Mines. They won't directly attack the player unless they are provoked.
Appearance[]
Gloombats are a mix between a bat and a moth. They can have either a green, yellow, cyan, red, pink, white, blue, purple and orange body, 6 small legs, and 2 big, body color-dependent glowing eyes; a mouth with sharp teeth and 2 fangs on the edges, a moth-like body with 2 antennae with multiple smaller antennae coming out like a leaf of some sort and 4 wings.
Behavior[]
Multiple types of Gloombats.
When a door is opened in The Mines, there is a chance for Gloombats to spawn in the room. They are usually in a group of five or more and fly around The Mines. They hate lights, and will viciously swarm around them to try and disable or break them as soon as possible. As such, most rooms that they spawn in will be dark. If any player uses any type of light source (other than glowsticks and laser pointers) near them, they will attack the player until the light source is gone or the user dies. There are a few ways to get rid of the Gloombats, such as waiting for a door to be illuminated by Guiding Light, since the blue light it emits usually makes them go away, or try to make them backtrack into a room with Figure for it to eat them.
Notes[]
- Gloombats can spawn as early as door 105.
- If the door to the next room emits odd chewing sounds, it means that the Gloombats will spawn upon opening the door.
- Gloombats will not harm any players who are not using an active source of light.
- As long as Flashlights, Lighters or any sources equipped by the Player is off, they will not be attacked by Gloombats.
- Contrary to popular belief, an active Straplight is not needed to use a Crucifix on them, as it is possible to hold a light source and quickly switch to the Crucifix once they are coming to deal damage.
- Glowsticks can be used as a temporary light source; as the Gloombats will only attack the Glowstick instead of the Player.
- As long as Flashlights, Lighters or any sources equipped by the Player is off, they will not be attacked by Gloombats.
- Gloombats will not attack players just for being near or within light sources.
- Even when hiding, Gloombats can still attack you if you have an active Straplight. This may be due to their small sizes, along with lockers having open spaces they could fit into.
- Gloombats are able to attack alongside Halt if they spawned in a room prior to his arrival and the player is using a light source.
- Gloombats can be discerned by their loud, metallic-like buzzing.
- Gloombats might shatter the lights before they flicker as a warning to Rush's arrival.
- If stepped on, the eggs will emit light for some time that can help players to navigate in the dark.
- Gloombats will follow the players into the next room(s) as long as they sense any source of light. Players can use their light sources when they can no longer hear the Gloombats' buzzing or if they are too far away.
- During the 2024 Trick Or Treat Event, Gloombats can be summoned in The Hotel by eating the "Infested" candy.
- If Gloombats spawn in The Hotel, they will not be able to break any light sources generated by a room (e.g., a fire, room lights).
- The Gloombats also resemble the colours of the glowsticks.
- Gloombats have a chance to open the next door by themselves.
- Gloombats won't attack any players who are glowing by/from Starlit, the "Glowing" Candy with the "Trick Or Treat" Modifier, or the event "Shine Bright" with the CHAT CONTROL Modifier.

Trivia[]
- Gloombats were first revealed in the Floor 2 teaser.
- Gloombats had their model leaked in the past.
- There have been leaks in which Gloombat eggs can spawn on rocks, but these leaks are unofficial and could be fake.
- The Gloombats were formerly referred to as Batmoths due to their filename originally being leaked as such, as well as their appearance being like a bat and a moth combined.
- Gloombats currently have the most UGC out of any other entity.
- The Gloombats can attack in combination other entities, such as Eyes, Screech, Giggle, Rush and Ambush.
- If the player get killed by Gloombats, their corpse would have multiple mini eggs scattered all over their body.
- The Gloombats are able to appear in flooded rooms and dive underwater.
- Gloombats are one of the entities which alter players body upon death, with it filling their corpse with eggs. Others being Seek, Grumble, Figure, Eyes, the Groundskeeper and Surge.
- Firedamp can also alter the player's corpse if the player ignites the room, exploding the player's body parts everywhere and giving them a corroded metal texture, although it isn't an entity, and a specific action must be done in order to get the result.
- Their Crucifix animation is unique compared other entities; when activated, the Crucifix creates several chains that reach out and attach to each Gloombat, and then pull them all into an orb before starting the usual banishment animation.
- This is most likely because there are too many Gloombats to restrain via normal means, so they must all be together.
- The text for the achievement "I Don't Believe My Eyes" is a reference to the line "You would not believe your eyes, if ten million fireflies..." from the Owl City song "Fireflies" (First sentence) , the description of the same achievement "Dude, I swear there were like... ten million of them!" could also be a reference to this.
- Additionally, the text for the "Bug Bomb" achievement is likely a reference to the saying "Pop Goes the Weasel".
- The Gloombats, like Grumbles, are the only entities capable of reproducing; in their case, through eggs.
- The Gloombats are passive towards players emitting no source of light from an item, as seen that they can touch the player without causing any type of harm.
- The Gloombats seem to sound more like flies, rather than bats or moths.
- When the "Infested" candy spawns Gloombats a distant roar is heard, indicating that it may belong to them.
- Deploying a Glowstick on the ground will make the Gloombats physically push it and attempt to destroy it which results in being turned off.
- Gloombats can have different eye colors, but the most common seems to be green.
- Gloombat eggs, when stepped on, hatch a Gloombat with eyes that are the same color as the egg.
- The colors of the eyes can be green, orange, blue, cyan, pink, red, yellow and white. Green is the most common out of all of them.
- The Gloombat's colours a very similar to the colours of a Glowstick.
- Figure will eat any Gloombat on contact.
- It's assumed that Figure does this because the Gloombats is trying to attack it due to the light emitted by its blisters and mouth.
- One of El Goblino's dialogue states that he sometimes tries to catch Gloombats to eat, but often fails due to his small size, comparing the task to hunting a bear.
- Another dialogue states that the Gloombats are very tasty to eat.
- However, considering how El Goblino is a goblin, it's likely that this isn't applicable to the player's taste.
