"Binded back together"
- "Rebirth" Achievement description
The Lotus is a placeable item that can be obtained by collecting 8 Lotus Petals in The Outdoors and bringing them to Grampy, who will then take the petals to create the flower (which everyone can obtain individually, one per player).
Appearance[]
The Lotus is a pink lotus flower with a yellow bud. Upon planting the Lotus, a long green thorny vine extends from its end. When reviving with it, the Lotus glows pink and yellow.
Usage[]
The Lotus can be placed anywhere on the ground where it will then sprout a flower. Upon dying the player will have the option to "Use Lotus", which will allow the player to see all Lotuses that they or any other dead players had placed. When a Lotus is used it will spawn the player at the location it was placed (starting a new run if in multiplayer). The Lotus will only be used up once the person that placed it decides to revive with it. It works as a checkpoint and a revive.
Notes[]
- It is possible to have multiple Lotuses placed at once.
- A Lotus can be used between floors, so, for example, if you died in The Mines, you could use your Lotus you placed back in The Outdoors and revive there.
- You can only access your Lotus through dying and clicking the "Use Lotus" icon. They cannot be accessed in the Lobby.
- This can be easily bypassed by going to The Hotel and using a Modifier such as Seeing Double or Four Eyes to die quickly.
- Items the player was carrying before death will be re-added to the player's inventory when they rebirth through a Lotus.
- Because of this, the players items will not drop on the floor upon death for others to pick up, preventing duping.
- Permanent status effects like the Green Herb that was applied on the player will be kept when rebirthing through a Lotus.
- Compatible modifiers will also carry when rebirthing through a Lotus into main floors.
- The Lotus can be used to duplicate rare items you want to keep such as the Shakelight or Starlight Jug. If you plant a Lotus at A-1000 for example, you can continue to The Hotel and still be able to use the Lotus to revive to A-1000, which means you can get another Starlight Jug. This also means you can infinitely duplicate the Starlight Jug, as long as you have a Lotus when you die to replant it at A-1000.
- You can also share these Starlight Jugs with other people, if they die in the same run as you they can take your Lotus to A-1000 and also plant their own Lotus, if they had one when they died, which also allows them to revive at A-1000. If a player doesn’t have the A-1000 achievement, they will sometimes get it when respawning at your A-1000 Lotus, however this isn't guaranteed. To guarantee players get the A-1000 achievement by respawning at your Lotus, you can plant it a few rooms before A-1000 and then run to A-1000, however keep in mind that entities may spawn before you get there.
- When the host of a Lotus clicks the "Use Lotus" icon, other players can vote if they want to choose another player's Lotus. It works similarly to the "Play again" button.
- The Lotus cannot be planted if progress is disabled, either via certain modifiers or in runs with +9 players.
- Unlike the Alarm Clock, this item cannot be get picked up again upon planting it.
- Grampy cannot create more than one Lotus per run. Trying to interact with Grampy after creating the one will only result in normal dialogue seen when not holding a Lotus Petal in hand.
Pros and Cons[]
Pros[]
- Useful to reach certain checkpoints.
- Helpful in saving revives.
- Can be used to skip major sections of floors by planting a Lotus at the final room of a floor, saving time for especially long floors like the Rooms.
- Allows players to be rebirthed while also keeping the items and gold they had prior to their death.
- Multiple players can use the host’s previously planted Lotus to all rebirth in a multiplayer game.
- Can be used to allow players to revive in subfloors, which would otherwise be impossible due to normal revives being disabled in subfloors.
- Can be used across floors, allowing players to skip past floors or go back to certain floors.
- Can be used to give players a second chance at boss fights at the end of floors, unlike revives which can’t be used.
- Players who have already planted a Lotus previously can still die with one in their inventory, allowing them to be rebirthed back with a Lotus in their inventory. This can be useful in creating an ‘infinite checkpoint’ at places such as A-1000, allowing players to infinitely use that Lotus if they die with another one in their inventory.
- Can be useful in farming knobs by planting a Lotus at the end of floors and immediately going through the exit after rebirthing, giving players a free 50 knobs.
Cons[]
- Requires 8 Lotus Petals to be given to Grampy in order to get a Lotus.
- Lotus Petals spawning in The Outdoors is RNG dependent, and it is not guaranteed that 8 petals will spawn prior to meeting Grampy.
- Can't be planted if progression is disabled, either via the use of modifiers or playing with 9+ players.
- Players with Lotuses planted with the ability to rebirth at any moment will not drop items when dying.
- Can't be picked back up once planted.
- It is very easy to misclick and accidentally plant while holding the item, leading to unfavourable rebirth spawn points.
- Can't be planted in The Backdoor due to the lack of a way to obtain a Lotus there.
- Each planted Lotus can only be used once.
- Unlike normal revives, Lotuses used to rebirth are not refunded to the player if they die immediately after rebirthing.
- It is not possible to get two Lotuses from Grampy in the same run, even with enough Lotus Petals.
- Requires the player to die first before they can use a Lotus to rebirth.
Bugs[]
- If placed inside a Seek chase, it has a chance to spawn the players right in the middle of the chase without Seek.
- The remaining distance mentioned in the sign in the Lotus rebirth room in The Outdoors might not be correct.
- When rebirthing into a guaranteed room, there is a chance players don't spawn in the Lotus room.[1]
- If a player selects a planted Lotus, and then exit and reopen the Use Lotus menu, that player won't have a checkmark. This is only visual.
- Entities can rarely instantly spawn upon Rebirthing into The Rooms.[2][3]
- There was a bug in The Outdoors where Eyestalk kills every player during the cutscene at the end of its chase. This made the subfloor unbeatable and the Lotus unobtainable.
Trivia[]
- The Lotus seems to be connected to Curious Light.
- The World Lotus and the Lotus Petal (from which the Lotus is crafted) emit the same color particles as the Starlight items, the Rifts and the skies of A-1000. These particles & their previously seen locations are all heavily associated with Curious Light.
- This can also explain why the Lotus works in subfloors, which the World Lotus can't normally enter.
- The Lotus was in the Admin Panel on the release of The Great Outdoors Update, but was removed shortly after, as it can't even be used with progression disabled.
- The Lotus used to be able to be rebirthed multiple times from one flower on the release of The Great Outdoors Update, this was patched several hours after it released.
- The Lotus can be planted in The Dining Hall and The Bridges when encountering Halt.
- As long as Halt is not crucified, the Lotus will appear blue.
- Originally, players could obtain Modifier Achievements by rebirthing through a Lotus. This has been changed in the fourth patch of The Great Outdoors Update.
