Movement Speed is a mechanic within DOORS that alters the player's speed while walking, running, crouching, etc. Movement speed does not transfer between floors, this is likely a bug.

Positive Increases

Speed
Movement speed is increased while:
  • Being in a chase sequence.
    • Figure's chase sequence in The Electrical Room after pulling the lever.

Trivia Trivia

  • Default or base Movement Speed is 15 walkspeed (studs per second), without other effects or modifiers.
  • Basic things, like moving backwards or crouching decrease the player's Movement Speed:
    • Moving backwards is 70% as fast as the base speed (without other effects or modifiers).
    • Crouching is 66% as fast as the base speed (without other effects or modifiers).
      • Both together are even slower (70% × 66% = 47% of the base speed).
  • Certain sequences in the game modify the player's Movement Speed, adding a certain amount of walkspeed to it.
    • Any Seek chase (+7 walkspeed)
    • The Electrical Room starting chase (+5 walkspeed)
    • The Electrical Room ending chase: (+6 walkspeed)
    • The Nest starting chase (+8 walkspeed)
    • The Nest ending chase (+7 walkspeed)
    • The Dam boss fight and ending (+3 walkspeed)
    • Eyestalk chase (+7 walkspeed)
  • When playing with other players, being at least a room behind any other alive player will give you additional Movement Speed.
    • When being 1 room behind the player in front, you will be given +5 walkspeed.
    • When being 2 or more rooms behind the player in front, you will be given +10 walkspeed.
  • Certain items are able to affect the player's Movement Speed:
    • Vitamins: Instant +8 walkspeed for 5 seconds; then, decreases linearly for ~5.5 seconds until reaching the default walkspeed again.
      • Vitamins (Hotel-): Instant +11.733 walkspeed, then, decreases linearly for ~10 seconds until reaching the default walkspeed again.
    • Starlight Vial: Instant +9 walkspeed for 1 second; then, decreases linearly for ~4.5 seconds until reaching the default walkspeed again.
    • Starlight Bottle: Instant +18 walkspeed for 1 second; then, decreases linearly for ~9 seconds until reaching the default walkspeed again.
    • Starlight Jug: Instant +27 walkspeed for 1 second; then, decreases linearly for 2 minutes and ~14 seconds until reaching the default walkspeed again.
    • Gween Soda: Instant +3 walkspeed, then, decreases linearly for ~33.5 seconds until reaching the default walkspeed again.
  • Certain Modifiers are able to affect the player's Movement Speed:[1]
    • MAXIMUM OVERDRIVE: +20 walkspeed at all times.
    • Faster, Faster, Faster: +6 walkspeed at all times.
    • Didn't Skip Leg Day: +3 walkspeed at all times.
    • My Knees Are Killing Me: Walkspeed when crouching is halved.
    • My Legs Are Killing Me: -3 walkspeed at all times; additionally, walkspeed when crouching is halved.
      • Exceptionally in this modifier, the percentages from crouching or moving backwards are calculated after the "-3" subtraction.
    • Injuries: -0.075 walkspeed when walking for every 1% of health missing.
      • Exceptionally, when combining this modifier with "Last Breath", the base walkspeed will decrease by 3.
    • PARTY MODE, Battle Mode: +10 walkspeed at all times.
    • 2025 Trick or Treat: +2 walkspeed at all times.
  • Certain Candies are able to affect the player's Movement Speed:
    • Brittle: +2 walkspeed, permanent. The effects stack with no limits.
    • Hard Candy: -2 walkspeed, permanent. The effects stack, capped to a minimum of 0 walkspeed.
    • Cinnamon: +1 walkspeed, permanent. The effects stack with no limit.
    • Nausea: +4 walkspeed, lasts for 10 seconds. The effects stack with no limits.
    • I Can't Stop: +50 walkspeed, lasts for 2 seconds. The effects stack with no limits.
    • Rock Candy: -13 walkspeed, lasts for 2 seconds. The effects stack, capped to a minimum of 0 walkspeed.
    • Volatile Starlight: same effect as the Starlight Vial or Bottle (random).
  • There's a property called "Water Slowness" for every player. The higher this value is, the slower the player will become.
    • This value increases the more submerged the player is in the water.
      • If the player isn't touching any kind of water, the value will be set to 0, and the walkspeed won't be affected.
      • However, for some reason, this value is set to 0 also when the player is fully submerged, not affecting the walkspeed.
  • The Admin Panels allows the admins to add up to 100 Speed Boost to themselves or to other players.
    • 1 Speed Boost = 1 walkspeed
  • When surviving an encounter with a glitched entity spawned by interacting with a Glitch Fragment, there is a 25% chance the player will be granted a permanent +4 walkspeed Speed Boost.
  • As Movement Speed increases, player's field of view (FOV) also does.
    • Speed modifiers are an exception: they don't increase the FOV by themselves.
  • Starlight items can't be stacked with each other, only one of them can be active at the same time. They can be stacked with other speed items however.
  • Most entities that move also have a set Movement Speed.
    • Figure's base Movement Speed is 10 walkspeed (studs per second). This value can be modified by some factors:
      • Every book collected in The Library adds 0.8 walkspeed to this value.
      • During the starting chase in The Electrical Room, 4 walkspeed is added to this value.
      • During the final chase in The Electrical Room, 6 walkspeed is added to this value.
        • When running (enraged), this value is multiplied by x1.75.
    • Rush's base Movement Speed is ~70 studs per second.
      • Rush's Movement Speed is ~120 studs per second with the modifier "I'm Runnin' Here".
    • Ambush's base Movement Speed is ~175 studs per second.
      • Ambush's Movement Speed is ~260 studs per second with the modifier "Afterimage".
    • Dread's base Movement Speed is 9 studs per second when it spawns.
      • 0 - 10 seconds: 9 studs per second.
      • 10 - 20 seconds: 11 studs per second.
      • 20+ seconds: 13 studs per second.
    • A-60's base Movement Speed is ~150 studs per second.
      • A-60's Movement Speed is ~80 studs per second if A-90 spawns due to A-60.
    • A-120's base Movement Speed is ~45 studs per second.
    • Blitz's base Movement Speed is ~50 studs per second.
    • Haste's base Movement Speed is 80 studs per second.
    • Sally's base Movement Speed is ~16 studs per second.
    • RNIUSHCg=='s base Movement Speed is 50 studs per second.
    • AR0xMBUSH's base Movement Speed is 200 studs per second.
    • Seek's Movement Speed varies a lot, as he will move slower or faster depending on how close or far is to the player in the back.
      • If the closest player to Seek is too close, Seek will slow down, giving that player a small possibility to still escape.
      • If the closest player to Seek is too far, Seek will move faster. That way, Seek can catch up to the players after, for example, they gain a huge distance when using a Crucifix.
        • If all players are dead, Seek will move at its fastest speed, being extremely fast.
  • When descending on a ladder, players have to move backwards, decreasing their speed. However, this can be bypassed if the player looks to a side and moves towards that side (looking to the right and holding D, or looking to the left and holding A). This is not intended.
  • Being teleported out of a Seek chase through any way will keep the speed boost from the chase (until another chase event occurs).
    • A common way is being teleported into Halt's Dining Hall at the end of the second Seek chase by another player.
    • Being voided by Void out of the Seek chase also works, however, this might normally require at least a Crucifix to delay Seek.
  • There was a glitch where if any player was still in the Seek chase when the Dam Seek boss fight was activated by another player, the players in the Seek chase wouldn't receive the speed boost from the Dam boss fight, and would be slower during the whole boss fight.
  • There was a glitch where if the player was under the effect of a "Rock Candy" candy right when the speed boost from another item (Vitamins, Starlight Vial/Bottle/Jug, Volatile Starlight) finished, they would keep the speed boost forever.
    • This required very precise timing, as the "Rock Candy" effect is very short.
    • If more "Rock Candy" candies were used during this moment, it was possible to reach even higher and insane speeds.[2]
  • During the first few versions of the game before The Hotel+ Update, there was a glitch where if a player that underwent the speed boost from falling behind a player and that said player left the game, the speed boost would still be active for the entirety of the run.
    • This is not the case with the HOTEL-, as it uses a later version where this bug is patched.
