A Puzzle Painting is a puzzle Item used for The Hotel's painting puzzle, situated in the The Meeting Room. There are 4 different variants: an oval-shaped painting of a white top hat, a tall painting of a brown cello, a square, red & abstract painting of a man, and a long, purple & pink painting of space.
Usage[]
To interact with the Puzzle Painting, one has to press 'E' on it to take it down. To hang it back up, one must press 'E' again on a slot. If there's a Puzzle Painting already in the slot the player wishes to put their Puzzle Painting in, the player will swap them. Players need to put the paintings in their correct positions in order to proceed; the Guiding Light will provide one with useful outlines of the paintings that belong in a slot, while also showing where the slot is in the first place. Once the puzzle is complete, the fireplace at the head of the Dining Room will descend, revealing the door for the next room.
Notes[]
- The locations of the slots are randomized, with patterns possible as follows:
- One slot can be placed in the middle of either the left or right sides, whereas the other three slots are placed on the other wall.
- Two slots can be placed on both walls.
- The slots on each wall can be placed either further or closer to each other.
Trivia[]
- Players can still pick up Puzzle Paintings after the puzzle has been completed. The puzzle will still remain solved if one or more of the Puzzle Paintings are picked up. After some time, the Puzzle Painting will teleport out of the player's hands and return to the last slot it was in.
- This can result in two or more paintings being stacked on each other.
- One way Puzzle Paintings differ from their Paintings is that they cannot be interacted with to see their name, as the interact button picks them up for puzzle solving instead.
- The tall painting is called "This Is Not A Violin". The other three's names are currently unknown.
- Puzzle Paintings do not enter the player's inventory whilst held; they instead enter a state of being held by the player. This means the player can still use items (e.g. Vitamins) while holding a Puzzle Painting.
- There is a bug in which players can pick up multiple paintings at once. This can be fixed by placing the paintings into puzzle slots.
- Any player holding a Puzzle Painting can still enter wardrobes and beds despite taking up a large portion of the screen.
- The painting of a man is actually a reference to Rick Astley’s Never Gonna Give You Up.
