"You saw that... right?"
- Follower description in the Tower Heroes Event

Shadow is a minor entity in DOORS, appearing when a player enters a new room in The Hotel or The Mines, and is one of the rarest entities that can be encountered.

Overview Appearance

Shadow appears as an all-black, lanky humanoid figure with long arms and legs.

Behavior Behavior

Just like Jack, when opening a door, Shadow will appear in for a second before disappearing with a rough sound and causing the lights to flicker. The exact chance for Shadow to appear behind a door is unknown, but it is likely in the range of 0.01% - 0.005% (1/10000 to 1/20000).

Notes

  • Besides the short jumpscare, a player cannot interact with Shadow in any way.
  • Shadow's appearance in video footage can be seen here.
  • Shadow can appear in any new room excluding Doors 99 and The Electrical Room.
  • Rush, Gloombats and Seek can trigger Shadow by opening the next door.
  • Shadow can appear during and right after Seek's Chase.

Bugs Bugs

  • Shadow appearing in a dark room causes the room to stay lit up after the flickering lights. Despite the light being on the room is still considered dark (e.g. Screech can spawn, Guiding Light lighting up doors). This can also affect The Greenhouse.
    • This could be because the lights are usually meant to stay on after the flickering is done.
  • Shadow has a chance of appearing as a white gradient rectangle instead of its usual appearance due to an issue with loading the decal.
  • Shadow's audio can be extended from less than a second to more than a minute in game by freezing their screen (Freeze Glitch) when Shadow appears.

Trivia Trivia

  • "Shadow" is a nickname given by the community as no official name has been given.
    • This makes Shadow one of the three entities to not have an official name, with the others being Guiding Light and Curious Light.
    • Wowzers has confirmed that Shadow does not have a real name.[1]
  • Shadow's was originally attached to the ceiling. This was removed due to the fear of it resembling a person being hung, which is against Roblox's Terms of Service.[citation needed]
  • Shadow's design is changed to be more "crushed" in the Tower Heroes Event.
  • Shadow can spawn along with other entities.
  • Shadow's audio is a fire crackling sound but distorted and slowed down.
    • The unedited version of it is the same sound used for fireplaces found around The Hotel.
    • The full version of this sound was present during the Tower Heroes Event.
    • The sound in-game normally lasts for less than a second because Shadow's model disappears, but the actual sound lasts for more than a minute.
      • This can be tested by freezing Roblox with a glitch (Freeze Glitch) when Shadow appears, as this way, the model won't disappear from the player's perspective while the game is frozen.
  • Shadow's sound will always have a different pitch tone, just like Ambush.
  • Shadow's decal is titled "creepy_dude".
  • It was confirmed by Ghostly_Wowzers that Shadow will never get an achievement in-game.[2]
  • Wowzers has stated that Shadow will remain an easter egg for the time being.[3]
  • Wowzers has previously stated that Shadow will likely have a future use.[4]
  • Shadow bears a striking resemblance to The Lookman, though this is likely coincidental.
  • Shadow's sound originates from this public sound, but in-game it has a 0.1 playback speed and a distortion effect.
  • Seeds affect Shadow's spawn. In the seed 2376668, it spawns in Door 101.
