Status Effects are game mechanics that can affect players in several ways, either helping or hindering them. They were technically added in Alpha Release, but were expanded in The Hotel+ Update and The Hunt Update.

Overview Overview[]

Status Effects are shown through icons on the bottom-left corner of the players screen, above their health bar if it is visible. They also manipulate a condition of a player, whether it might be beneficial or not.

Crouching Allows the player to move through crawlspaces and move around without alerting Figure.
However, it also reduces the player's movement speed.

Speed Boost Increases the player's movement speed. The amount depends on the source. The effect itself can be stacked, though most speed-boosting items of the same type cannot be repeatedly consumed in quick succession. Ways to gain the effect:
Positive
Starlit I Causes the player to emit a yellow light from themselves and have a yellow vignette effect on their vision.
The duration, range and brightness of this light and the vignette depends on the effect's level, which itself depends on the source of the effect.

If the player already has any level of the Starlit effect, they may not consume any other item that provides the effect for the rest of its duration.

Herb of Viridis Grants the player a passive healing effect of 5 HP restored for every opened door. Use the Green Herb in The Hotel. Positive
Wet Prevents the light sources from turning on; passively decreases the lighter's maximum fuel.
Makes most electrical light source items more likely to flicker and turn off by themselves.

Slows down the player for the duration the effect is on.

Extinguishes the Fire effect.

Be waist-deep in flooded areas in The Mines, lakes/ponds in The Outdoors, or touch Dam Seek's slime. The effect will stay for a brief moment after exiting either liquid. Negative
Burning Causes Rapid damage, while also providing a small orange light around the affected player. Neutral
Confusion Reverses movement controls. Negative

Unknown Neutral, Exploits
In Firedamp Unused, presumably indicates when the player is inside a Firedamp room. Unused, presumably being inside Firedamp rooms. Exploits
God Mode Makes the player immune against most damage and deaths. Avaliable through use of the Admin Panel, Glitch Fragments, Rock Candy, Chat Control and the God Mode pad in Battle Mode. Positive


Trivia Trivia[]

  • If a player gains the "Wet" effect while the "Burning" effect is active, it will be cancelled and will disappear.
  • Before The Content Update, a red line was shown to separate positive and negative status effects, but was removed in that update.
  • Before The Content Update, God Mode didn't have an icon, it was later added in that update.
    • During that period of time, "God Mode" could only be obtained through the Rock Candy candy, added in The Haunt.
  • Before The Hunt Update, the "Speed Boost" and "Crouching" effects despite always being present, had no icons, they were then added in the update.
  • Moving forward with the "Confusion" effect slows down the player as if they were moving backwards without the effect.
  • The "God Mode", "Burning", "Confusion" and "Wet" icons flash white and red in-game. This is because these effects are mostly negative.

Bugs Bugs[]

  • Before the 12/01/25 patch, the template particle emitter of the Fire status effect that exists for each player's character is enabled and visible at the center of the world in both the Lobby and Game places.
  • Many entity interactions can kill or damage the player despite having God Mode, and even cause other features to not work properly.
    • Seek's hands in The Hotel can still trigger their killing cutscene and kill players with God Mode.
    • A-120, despite not killing players with God Mode, ragdolls them forever (until another unragdoll event is triggered, if it ever is). It also makes the player immune to other node entities permanently, including future A-120s.
    • Groundskeeper, Monument, Eyestalk and Bramble all can damage players and lead them into the Death Screen with God Mode.
    • Sally can still damage players with God Mode when jumpscaring them.
      • The same happens with the "Mid Candy" and "Sour Roulette" candies.
      • Before The Great Outdoors Update, Sally ignored players with God Mode and couldn't jumpscare them.
    • Before The Content Update, Figure could jumpscare players with God Mode, decapitating them and leaving them unable to move.[3]
    • Before The Content Update, players could still die running out of oxygen (Firedamp, Floods, Seek's goop) with God Mode.[4]
