"Once the door is open, you must run out of the room!"
- Guiding Light when Door 51 is open
The Library, also known as Room 50, is a pre-generated boss location that will always appear at the halfway point of The Hotel. The room contains one major entity, which is the Figure, alongside a few miscellaneous entities.
Overview
The Library features multiple tall bookshelves arranged in rows, a small library desk area, a large table, and an upstairs/balcony area where the exit is present connected by 2 stairways. There is one blocked staircase that prior to the floor 2 update, it was only on the left side but can now be on either.

Walkthrough
To complete The Library, players must collect Library Books that randomly generate on the bottom three shelves of the various bookshelves. The books emit a shimmering noise and are marked by Guiding Light after an amount of time. After interacting with a library book, the book will temporarily enter a player's inventory whilst displaying a number and a shape. The book will then be put away by a player and the combination from within the book will be recorded and displayed to the other players on the bottom left corner of the screen. It should also be noted that while only five books count toward figuring out the code, it is guaranteed that the 8th (last) book found will be the last digit to the code.
There are eight library books to be collected, however only five numbers are required to open the combination lock at the exit door. All players can interact with the Solution Paper, which is a paper on the library desk that has instructions to open the exit door as well as the correct combination. To enter the correct combination, players must locate a shape's corresponding number and enter it into the correct position. The lock is located at the far end of the library. If another player unlocks the door, it is unlocked for all players, allowing everyone alive to escape. All the while, the Figure will be pacing around The Library randomly. The Figure is blind, but it can hear the player if they stop crouching, use vitamins, step on the broken lamp, or enter a closet, and will come running to the last place the noise was made. Hiding in a closet, crouching and fleeing, or outrunning the Figure is the only way to avoid death. Note that outrunning the Figure is only effective if less than 3 library books have been collected (as the Figure's walk speed increases the more books are collected).
Prior to the Floor 2 Update, when Door 51 was opened, a warning noise was played and Figure used to run to it, attempting to reach any escaped players (an invisible wall prevents it from leaving The Library). It eventually closed the door. Then, it perceived the location of every living player in The Library and pursued them at approximately 2x its normal walking speed (remaining players were also made faster). It used to automatically kill any player inside of a closet and any player it had not killed within a certain timespan.
As of the Floor 2 update, once Door 51 is unlocked and opened, the Figure won't aggressively start stalking players but rather behave normally and Guiding Light will seal the door close with their hexagram and if a player is left behind Void will teleport the player to Door 51.
Floor 2 Update Changes
The biggest change to the library in the The Mines update is the removal of safe spots. Before the update, there were many places the Figure would never go unless chasing someone, most notably and most used among them being the corner to the right of the exit door, right in front of the entrance door, and beside the barricaded staircase on the left. All of these locations have been removed, meaning the Figure may easily path find into said areas.
To compensate for that, two changes were made. First, the Alarm Clock was added. The Alarm Clock is an item that is found on the library desk before entering the library, in Door 49, and on the table next to the sofa at the end of the Library's main walkway. The alarm clock can be wound up by left clicking and placed on the floor at the player's feet. It will tick down for about ten seconds and then go off, alerting the Figure and making it rush to that location. It is advised to use it as a distraction to get somewhere in the Library, but make sure you are not in the Figure's path to the clock when it goes off. When the figure finds the clock, he will angrily run around it, searching for players, before stomping on the clock and smashing it to pieces. It is not usable after that. You can also keep an alarm clock after the library, and use it in the Electrical Room or in a room containing the Figure in The Mines. The smashing animation is also used to smash the lamp that gets knocked over when the player enters the library.
The second change is the removal of the heartbeat minigame. This change applies to the Electrical Room as well. Instead of rushing to the closet and starting a minigame in which you have to line up hearts that get faster, the Figure instead just lingers outside your closet for a few seconds before walking away, making it much easier to hide from the Figure. However, Hide will attack the player if they remain in a closet, albeit it takes much longer to attack.
Other changes to the Library include the changing of which staircase is barricaded - one of the two will be blocked and it's random every time the library is generated which one. The bust in the center of the library titled 'Awesome Tony' was replaced with a couch and a table with the second alarm clock. Finally, The Figure's animations have been improved as it fully animated.
Notes
- Players can open the door by guessing and the process of elimination, although this is only recommended if you are missing one digit (it could take up to ten tries) and any more than that would take exponentially more tries (up to one hundred tries at two).
- The Figure can catch players actively attempting to open the combination lock - and the Figure often goes right in front of it, so be careful.
- Jack has the chance to spawn in the Library, and if so, will transform it to a subtle red ambience, which also modifies the Figure.
Super Hard Mode Modifications
- There are 15 books scattered across the Library, and only 10 of them will resemble the exit code.
- Figure is recolored into a "noob".
- In SUPER HARD MODE, if a player uses the Holy Hand Grenade against the Figure in the Library, Hide will not spawn throughout the rest of the run, making hiding from entities far easier, particularly in The Greenhouse. This is due to the door not closing behind players after escaping the Library.
- The Code Paper in the Library will require players to hold the E key to collect instead of just simply pressing the E key.
- Due to a player having to collect 10-15 books in the Library, the Figure may run extremely fast, being harder to avoid the more books than a player has.
Modifiers
- If any modifiers that make Eyes spawn in all rooms, then players may get killed after the cutscene if Eyes spawned behind Figure due to the cutscene forcing players to look forward and therefore at the Eyes.
- If the "Again & Again & Again" and "I'm Everywhere" modifiers are selected then it's possible for Ambush and Screech to spawn in the Library.
- If you have the Stop Right There Or Room For More Modifiers , A-90 can attack alongside with Figure.

Bugs
- There is the bug, likely occurring only on mobile, where if player gets closer to the large office desk container, they will start jumping on it in both The Library and Door 49.
- If a player takes vitamins before entering The Library, a bug can occur that the cutscene won't play and a player will stand in front of the opened doors unable to walk until the time of the cutscene will end, after which players will be teleported to The Library. However, this bug might happen because of bad internet connection instead of the vitamins.
- There is a bug that if a player crouches up to the entrance door and rapidly changes the direction they are facing, then they might glitch back into The Library Reception and get stuck.
- There is a bug where Rush skips a door. If this bug happened in any moment, players would start to hear the figure growling when reaching room 48, and when opening door 49, they will be automatically moved to the dark room 50, and the figure will get stuck at the front door.
- When the Hotel+ update was released, an error often occurred in which room 49 was a standard hotel room.
- Prior to the Hotel+ update, there was a high chance to encounter Glitch before the 49th room. The reason behind this is because the Library had a high chance to overlap on the other room, which was spawning Glitch to fix the problem. This bug has been fixed.
- There used to be a bug where, if door 50 is opened quickly after door 50, the cutscene wouldn't play and the Figure would be stuck T-posing, unable to harm players. This happened because the Library would open before it could fully load. This has been fixed
- Sometimes there is a bug where you can't revive in the library because the revive button will say "Wait until is safe". This happens when you die directly on the Figures path.
- By standing at door 51 after unlocking it, you can trap yourself in the Library due to the door closing. In this state, the Figure will run in place and have no hit box, nor will it glow or make sounds.
- Post Hotel + Update, if you got stuck in Library after Door 51 closes, Figure would chase the player until death and hiding wouldn't work, but after The Mines update, Void kicks you out of The Library to Door 51.
Trivia
- Revives are permitted in this room - you will be teleported to the entrance door.
- Prior to the Hotel+ Update, Guiding Light did not appear near the books, the only hint that one was near was the shimmering sound.
- Most invisible barriers were removed from the Library in The Hunt: First Edition update. Now Figure can climb over the railing and over some other things.
- This was fixed in the Floor 2 update and now the invisible walls are added back.
- The Solution Paper can be easily grabbed from behind the table very easily since The Hunt: First Edition update.
- It is inferred that the Guiding Light initially knocked down the lamp that attracted the Figure in the beginning cutscene of the Library because when Figure stomps on the lamp we can see blue particles for a short amount of time, which is guiding light.
- Due to the fact that the Library is a halfway point, most or all of the gameplays will become harder from here.
- If Rush spawns and the door to Room 49 is open, it can open the door to Room 50 and start the cutscene early.
- If the door to the Library is already open, Rush can make it into a Dark Room, although this will most likely kill players due to the cutscene.
- If Door 48 has a Dupe door, there's a chance Dupe will create a fake normal door of Door 50.
- According to Redibles, the puzzle is made specifically to give players useless books first. [1]
- The Hotel+ Update was supposed to introduce new items that made the puzzle slightly easier.[2]
- Prior to the Floor 2 update, players were able to hear Figure growling when they were at Room 49. This was because Figure used to spawn when door 49 was opened prior to the update.
- As of now, Room 49 has no growling sounds, and the sounds will start playing once Door 50 is opened.
- Prior to the Mines update, a statue at the middle walkway in front of the balcony (named awesome Tony) was present. Now it has been replaced by a couch and two dressers on either side (the one on the left looking upon it containing an alarm clock on the top).
