"Incredible! I never imagined the World Lotus could be so powerful. "
- Curious Light

World Lotus is a hostile entity and the overarching antagonist of The Outdoors subfloor. It is a powerful entity that uses its vines to control innate objects or other entities in order to kill the player(s). It also makes minor appearances in The Hotel and The Mines, as well as in all floors (except The Backdoor), through rebirth when using a Lotus.

Overview Appearance[]

World Lotus is a titanic lotus flower with large, thorny vines for roots. These vines visibly move around and wiggle in the air, while others, found within various side-rooms around the subfloor, The Courtyard in the Hotel, and the Jeff Shop in the Mines, remain stationary. Its main stalk towers over the hedge maze. Lotus petals constantly fall from the sky around the plant as particles, and a cloud of pollen also seemingly surrounds the lotus proper. Since the plant spans the majority of the subfloor, plus throughout other floors, its size is colossal, hence its given name, World Lotus.

Using its vines, it also has the ability to take forms/control other entities. These include:

Behavior Behavior[]

The Outdoors[]

World Lotus is situated in the center of The Hedge Maze. Its vines cover parts of the maze, as well as the exit. Three of its vines lay around the Hedge Maze; each of these vines has a guillotine built around it in a tiled room near the tips of the vines. On one side of each guillotine is a lever; when pulled, the vine will be severed, and the World Lotus will retract the stump into its main body, leaving a hole in the maze and allowing players to progress. When all three vines in The Hedge Maze have been cut, the vines covering the exit will retract, allowing the player to escape. All of this must be done whilst evading Bramble, which is controlled by the World Lotus. It is also responsible for controlling other entities we see throughout the subfloor, such as Eyestalk.

The Hotel[]

World Lotus appears outside the boundary fence in The Courtyard. It appears to be a singular, thorny, long vine that stretches into the forest. This is the only known location for the World Lotus to reside in The Hotel.

The Mines[]

World Lotus appears inside Jeff's Shop as a singular, thorny, long vine entering through a pipe, and can be seen in the process of grabbing a nearby lamppost. This is the only known location for the World Lotus to reside in The Mines, however, it may appear in various side-rooms (not discovered yet).

This can only be experienced if players didn't enter The Mines through The Outdoors. Otherwise, the World Lotus would be absent from the pipe.

Lotus Rebirth Rooms[]

The World Lotus also appears in specialized rooms after a player has revived by using a Lotus. There is a room corresponding to each floor and subfloor. The plant's vines are seen to intertwine around the room, as well as its main stalk sticking out of the ground. Most prominently, its giant flower blooms.

Notes[]

  • In The Hedge Maze, the Compass will point to the maze's exit if you have it; this can help if you are lost after cutting all three vines.
  • The music that plays during The Hedge Maze will become more intense after each vine is cut.
  • Snares do not appear within The Hedge Maze, but they can appear on the ledge just past the exit. If the player walks over a Snare on the ledge during the cutscene, it will not do anything.
  • In the Lotus Revival room in The Hotel, there is a secret vine-covered room that contains the Skeleton Key, lying on the floor, free of charge.
  • The Backdoor also has a Lotus Rebirth room designed with the subfloor's respective decor, but is inaccessible, as it's impossible to revive with a Lotus in the subfloor without Modifiers being enabled.

Puzzles Forms[]

Main article: The Outdoors / Snare

"That was Snare who trapped you. You'll need a light source to scan for them."
- Guiding Light

Snare is a minor entity in DOORS, residing in The Hotel and The Outdoors. It appears in The Courtyard and The Greenhouse and can spawn anywhere within The Outdoors. It serves as an obstacle during these floors and a trap that will stop players from hiding from hostile entities.

Overview Appearance[]

Snare is a greenish-brown grassy entity with holes hiding retractable spike-like growths. While dormant, it looks akin to a circular dirt patch on the ground. When stepped on by a player, it releases its large white spikes to impale them.

RediblesQW has stated that Snare expands beyond The Greenhouse floor, as it also has a large series of interconnected vines underground, with its traps poking up from said vines.[1] This implies that Snare is a part of the World Lotus.

Behavior Behavior[]

The Hotel[]

Inside each room in The Greenhouse, 1-3 Snares will spawn. If a player steps on it, Snare will release its spikes into their foot, immobilizing them for a few seconds, dealing 20 damage to them. This prevents players from moving or using items. Snare can also spawn in The Courtyard, as of The Mines update, at the entrance or inside of the basement, which can catch the players off guard.

Notes[]

  • It is strongly recommended to have a light source during The Greenhouse section, as there will be no reliable light sources, making it somewhat difficult to detect Snare.
    • In The Mines Update, it is now easier to avoid the entity, as the Greenhouse is now slightly brighter.
  • It is recommended that players check the ground ahead of them as they traverse The Greenhouse.
  • Lightning can strike, illuminating the room slightly for a few moments, which can be useful for locating Snare, as well as for finding closets.
  • When a player dies to Rush while being trapped by Snare, Guiding Light will have unique dialogue.
  • Eyes may also act as a light source to locate Snares. It can be useful if a player doesn't have any light sources or is preserving fuel for the next room.
  • Since Guiding Light appears in dark rooms after a few minutes, it can also be used to locate Snare.
  • It is common for multiple Snares to appear in a room.
  • If one is unable to get to a hiding spot due to Snare's trap, they can use the crucifix as a last option against Rush.
  • Items can not be equipped while being trapped by Snare.
    • If a player has an item equipped, it's automatically unequipped. This could be lethal if Rush comes near a player or if Screech spawns when they are trapped.
    • Items are not automatically equipped after being released by Snare.
    • Snare was removed in The Mines because they can spawn in crawlspaces, up to 3 on top of one another, causing the player to be soft-locked. But it is coming back in a future update (Most likely using modifiers, though it currently does not work).

The Outdoors[]

  • In The Outdoors, Snare can appear in almost any room (except The Hedge Maze), behaving the same way as the Hotel. Snare can appear during the Eyestalk chase, where it will trap players for a shorter time than usual.
  • Snare is extremely deadly in The Outdoors, as it can immobilize Players long enough to get killed by other entities, such as the Groundskeeper (when on grass), Surge, Eyestalk, Bramble, and Monument.
    • However, the Snares seen in Eyestalk's chase have a slightly reduced stun time.

Modifiers[]

  • If any of Snare's modifiers are enabled, such as 'Watch Your Step', Snare can freely spawn in the Hotel, and is no longer exclusive to the Greenhouse.
    • Its modifier extension "Are Those Pancakes?!" can have up to 3-4 Snares to spawn in rooms.
      • Its other modifier extension, "I Love Pancakes!!!" can cause up to 6-8 Snares to spawn in a room. Also, Snare's damage can now be fatal.
    • After The Hunt Update, there can be two Snares with "Watch Your Step" modifier. It can also spawn in The Library.
    • The only exceptions are that Snare cannot spawn at all in The Reception and during Seek's chase sequences.

Bugs Bugs[]

  • If a player steps on Snare at the same time Rush kills them, the death screen will appear normal but Rush's audio will continue to play in the background.
    • Guiding Light will also say Rush's death message, but the death screen will say the player died to Snare. This also happens with Curious Light's message for Surge when dying to it whilst stepping on Snare in The Outdoors.
    • This is similar to a bug where players are able to die to Timothy.
  • Prior to the Floor 2 update, If a player used any of Snare's modifiers, (i.e. "Watch Your Step," "Are Those Pancakes?!", or "I Love Pancakes!!!") Snare could spawn on the roof, and players will only be able to see Snare's spikes from below. This is fixed because of Snare's new design.
  • Prior to the Floor 2 Update, there was a bug where if players were standing in the middle of a Snare, Rush, Ambush, A-60, and A-120 couldn't kill the players.
    • This happens because the player's hitbox was covered by Snare's invisible hitbox.
    • To do this consistently players first had to step on the Snare. After the animation finishes, the player needed to stay on the middle of it in order to not be killed.
      • It was possible to do the bug without stepping on it at first, but it was really inconsistent.
  • Using any of Snare's modifiers, it's possible for some Snares to be bugged; they can't be triggered, and if players step on them, nothing will happen.
    • This happens because these Snares are technically from the next room, but they were positioned incorrectly and spawned in the previous room. Snare is likely coded to only be triggered by players that are in the room to which Snare corresponds, which is why it can't be triggered.
  • When using one of Snare's modifiers, (i.e. "Watch your step," "Are Those Pancakes?!" or "I love pancakes!!") it is possible for Snare to spawn on a staircase and reveal its full model.
  • When modifiers were added to The Mines, Snare's modifiers were available, but did not spawn Snare at all.
    • This is no longer the case, as Snare's modifiers are no longer available in The Mines.
  • For unknown reasons, after The Content Update, Snare no longer releases its spikes. It is unknown if this is a bug or not.
    • This has been patched in The Great Outdoors Update.

Trivia Trivia[]

  • Snare is the first hostile entity from a main floor to appear in a subfloor, that being The Outdoors.
    • It is technically the second after the Glitch Fragment Entities, though they did not debut on a specific floor and instead can appear on all floors.
  • Snare had a chance of appearing in The Mines before they were removed from said place.
  • Snare, Sally and Timothy are the only entities that can damage players but are non-fatal.
    • Snare and Timothy can become fatal with modifiers.
  • As of the Floor 2 update, Snare is currently the only entity that does damage within The Hotel without an achievement.
  • In the Tower Heroes Event, Snare appears as one of El Goblino's traps; specifically, when El Goblino is upgraded to Level 4.
  • Snare may take some inspiration from the bear traps from the nightmare mod in Granny, Organic Traps. Both are living creatures, have sharp attributes, and make a similar grunting sound. The only difference is that in DOORS the player automatically frees themselves.
  • Snare's name comes from Snare Trap.
  • Snare's texture is "grass", and its teeth texture is "glacier".
  • Prior to The Mines update, Snare had 17 holes, now it has 19.
  • Snare is heavily implied to be a part of the World Lotus, as stated by the devs.[1]
    • According to Redibles, Snare actually spreads farther underground, with a large series of vines, with its traps poking up like weeds.[1]
  • According to Guiding Light, Snare is sentient.
  • Grampy refers to Snares as "Stickers".
  • If Any snare modifier is on and "Vacuum sealed" modifier on, Snares can spawn inside Vacuum doors, which reveals their whole model floating in the Vacuum.

"Can you shut that thing up already?"
- Curious Light

Mandrakes are entities that appear in The Outdoors. They were first revealed inside the LSPLASH profile picture then inside the Outdoors Teaser Trailer.

Overview Appearance[]

While it's underground, all that's seen of a Mandrake is a bunch of leaves sprouting out of the grass and surrounded by dirt, similar to an actual plant root. In its true form, the Mandrake is a light-pinkish gray, turnip-shaped entity, similar to Screech and Giggle, with seemingly light-yellow eyes.

Behavior Behavior[]

  • Roots are abundant throughout the Outdoors. If a player gets too close to some of these roots, a Mandrake will uproot itself and begin wailing at them, forcing the player to look at it.
  • While a player's in the presence of a screaming Mandrake, they'll slowly fall unconscious which will result in their death; meanwhile, their vision blurs and darkens.
  • There are three ways to survive a Mandrake: firstly, you can pick it up and plant it back in the hole it uprooted itself from. Secondly, you can bring it to the Groundskeeper who'll impale it with its scythe. Lastly, you can walk away from it, although this isn't recommended.
  • If a player walks away from a wailing Mandrake, it'll detach itself from its vine and begin rolling towards the player in order to continue wailing at them. It'll only stop when the player dies or gains enough distance.
    • It'll also detach itself from its vine after killing a player in order to find another one to scream at.[2]
  • If all players are too far from an active Mandrake (or there are no players alive), it will roll back into its hole and become inactive again permanently.

Trivia Trivia[]

  • According to Curious Light, the Mandrake's wails kill players by giving them a heart attack.
  • The World Lotus likely controls the Mandrakes since they are all wrapped in vines.
  • Mandrakes are likely based on a myth from the Middle Ages which states they'd cause people to go insane from their screams.[3]
    • They might also be inspired by the mandrakes seen in the Harry Potter franchise because they share similar names and behaviors.[4]
  • Mandrakes can spawn inside ponds.[verification needed]
  • Grampy refers to the Mandrakes as "Parsnipian[s]."

"How unoriginal. I'm sorry you had to see that."
- Curious Light

Eyestalk is a hostile entity that appears in The Outdoors. It was teased in the 36th Devlog.

Overview Appearance[]

Eyestalk appears to be an aspen tree trunk with eye-like markings on its bark. Its body is wrapped in pale green, thorny vines that form into arms and legs, the left lower arm being a branch. It also has a small branch on the left side of its "head", with three small leaves sprouting.

Behavior Behavior[]

Player(s) will know when Eyestalk is about to appear when aspen trees (white trees with black marks that resemble eyes) start to gradually appear throughout the areas. Eventually, the player(s) will enter a large gathering with an aspen trunk in the center. As soon as a player reaches the end of the room, the vines appear and takes control of the trunk and a twig beside it, forming Eyestalk, which then begins pursuing the player(s). During the chase, player(s) need to find the correct path while avoiding any Snares on the ground, which may appear in multiples. If Eyestalk manages to capture the player(s), it will immobilize them by growing veins around them before hitting them twice, killing them. At the end of the chase, the player(s) jump off a bridge but are unable to get up in time. Before Eyestalk can kill them, however, the Groundskeeper chops the entity in two right as it lunges towards the player(s). One half of Eyestalk tries to grab the player(s') leg with its veins but was taken by the Groundskeeper, who then gave the player(s) a look, before leaving. The other half of Eyestalk was left remaining stationary, presumably dead.

Eyestalk is very likely to be controlled by the World Lotus

Trivia Trivia[]

  • Eyestalk is likely two separate entities, being a piece of aspen tree controlled by the World Lotus. It is implied that the aspen tree's eye patterns are actual eyes which the World Lotus are able to use as sight to pursue the players. The aspen tree itself being an alive entity however is unknown.
  • Eyestalk shares many aspects with Seek, to which Curious Light even pointing it out when dying to it, stating the Eyestalk as "unoriginal."
    • Both have chase sequences.
    • Both have similar build-ups to their chase sequences, with Seek having its eyes appear around the rooms, and Eyestalk having its trees.
    • Both have long rooms with a cutscene trigger for their chases.
    • Both are heavily themed around eyes.
    • Both insta-kill the player(s).
      • After killing a player, Eyestalk will emit the same scream as Seek when it kills a player.
  • During the chase, players can use a Lantern to scan for Snares, and a compass to look for the next room due to not being provided with guidance.
    • Due to Snares only spawning on tiled floors during the chase, player(s) can save fuel by only using the Lantern when they are about to step on tiled floor.
    • Though it is not recommended to completely trust compasses as some rooms require going left and right multiple times, making the path to the next room not a straight line that can be followed through.
  • Grampy refers to Eyestalk as "Treewalker".

"Hmm... it seems the vines have formed an entire body out of bramble..."
- Curious Light

Bramble is an entity of The Outdoors. It serves as the final boss of the Outdoors, relentlessly trying to pursue the player(s) in The Hedge Maze.

Overview Appearance[]

Bramble has a humanoid body made almost entirely of vines, with its torso, arms, and legs made of vines, wrapped around a lantern, with the lamp of the lantern acting as its head. Bramble's lamp is split into two so as to resemble a mouth, with a vine sticking out of the front of the broken lantern like a tongue. On one of its shoulders, a small lotus flower can be seen.

Behavior Behavior[]

Bramble will pace around the maze at a relatively slow speed. The light on its head will periodically be turned on and off. While the light is off, it will not be lethal and simply continue to roam around, allowing the player to maneuver their way around it. Due to its tall size, Bramble's head can often be seen above the hedge maze; however, it cannot see you over the walls.

If the player is caught moving from a distance while the light is on, Bramble will unleash thorns that emerge from the ground to rapidly damage the player. If the thorns reach a moving player it will immediately kill them. The player can avoid death by either breaking line of sight by getting behind a wall, hiding in a closet, or standing still.

If the Bramble is at a considerable distance away from the player, it will withdraw its vines into the ground and leave the remains of its lamppost behind, before wrapping around a new lamppost that is in closer proximity to the player. The remains of lampposts act identically to a regular lamppost, and can be reanimated. It's recommended to be wary of any lampposts because of this. If you walk past a lamppost while you are away from Bramble, be careful, as it's very likely Bramble will appear from it or another nearby lamp.

Curious Light has confirmed that the World Lotus controls Bramble.

Gallery Gallery[]

Trivia Trivia[]

  • According to Curious Light, Bramble is The World Lotus' body host. "It's clear the World Lotus chose a lantern as its body host for a reason".
  • The way of walking and attacking when it reaches a player of this entity can be compared to that of Figure.
  • It is believed that a part of its body was shown in the trailer for The Great Outdoors Update.
  • The vine holding a lantern that appears coming out of the sewer in Jeff's shop in the mines may be a reference to this entity.
  • Bramble's mechanic of attacking when the light is on and not when it's off is similar to the game Red Light Green Light.
  • During the Hedge Maze, if the player runs back down the original tunnel and presses against the leaf wall that stops them from escaping, they enter a blind spot in which Bramble cannot attack or damage them.
  • Bramble vaguely resembles Candlebearers from Pressure.

Trivia Trivia[]

  • The World Lotus is given its name by Curious Light through a death message from Bramble.
  • Lotus is represented, particularly in the Buddhist religion, as a symbol for purity, rebirth, and strength, hence its mechanics.
    • Interestingly, in Ancient Greek mythology, lotuses are shown to be dangerous when consumed, as it causes the consumer to never want to leave the place they occupy, therefore drawing comparisons to the 'Limbo' in which the game exists in.
  • The vine of the World Lotus in The Courtyard is known in the game files as 'BigScaryVine'.
  • As said by Grampy, the World Lotus attempts to take over the bodies of living creatures to control them.
    • This can be seen happening in real time in a rare side-room, in which a Monument can be seen with many vines digging into its flesh and holding it in place, all while the Monument desperately attempts to break free.
    • Grampy also says that this is the reason that the Groundskeeper wants us to stay off the grass, as the Groundskeeper wants to prevent the World Lotus from claiming more victims to puppet.
  • The World Lotus often 'mimics' entities in main floors. Bramble's behavior is similar to Figure, Eyestalk directly behaves like Seek, and Mandrakes most likely mimics the behavior of Screech and Giggle.
    • In Bramble's case, Curious Light mentions that its behavior is like another entity the player has met before, implying that Bramble uses similar mechanics to Figure.
  • The World Lotus is heavily implied to be related to Curious Light.
    • The World Lotus and the Lotus Petals utilize the same glowing yellow and pink particles seen around the Starlight items, the Rifts, and the skies of the Lobby & A-1000. These particles & their previously seen locations are all heavily associated with Curious Light.
  • Other vines, such as vine doors, chests, and decoration, are not a part of the World Lotus, as they lack thorns.
  • The guillotines in The Hedge Maze have been placed by the Groundskeeper, as mentioned by Curious Light.
    • There is also a guillotine in one of the rooms in The Mill, further confirming this.
  • According to Grampy, Bugleweed acts as a deterrent to the spreading of the World Lotus, due to the Groundskeeper likely planting them around some of its vines.
  • The rebirth rooms that appear after a player rebirths with a lotus flower, are confirmed to be canon to the storyline by the developers.[6]
  • The World Lotus is 155.35 Studs Tall. This is equivalent to 43.988 Meters, 44 if rounding up, or 142.7 ft.

Door Events[]

The Halloween Spotlight Event[]

The World Pumpkin is this alternate dimension's equivalent of the World Lotus. The center of the World Pumpkin was going to be reached by the players in a final room similar to The Hedge Maze replacing World Lotus, and with Jack-O-Lantern Bramble, but this idea was scrapped before the release, as it felt too ambitious. Fortunately, it is mentioned multiple times by Wizard Grampy in-game and also appears as a miniature version in the Lobby. [7]
